AMD we have been having nothing but problems since June. Modern HDTV's are a 16:9 aspect ratio. The output from the splitter is HDMI 1.3. In all fairness though, I've never tried to actually call support about this because I can't imagine ever being able to comunicate the issue without having a stroke. The only way to correct this is to either power cycle the uDTA or to toggle the input from HDMI to HDMI2 and back again to HDMI1. As a sanity check, the program is distorted, correct? You’ll need to play with your tv settings, the best you can or upgrade to HD. In order to fit them on your wider screen, 16x9 HDTV, something has to give. Is that inconvenient or what? When a commercial plays, the two black vertical bars disapear and the aspect ratio of the programming are as expected in SD. I called the 888 number on the screen and the voice response automated system did a nice job getting me activate without having to be put on hold (this activation sequence is at the end of the video -. And sometimes the same film will actually employ different aspect ratios, often for effect.

Maybe we will try the HDMI splitter also. For example, the old tube-style TVs were slightly wider than they were tall. Rustyben's comments lead me to believe that they (not Comcast, but the channels) are purposly sending incorrect aspect ratios under the assumption that the display device is going to stretch it back out to the correct ratio (like it's 1999).

The screen aspect ratio problem kind of defeats some of the advantages of HD. The problem is movies. (Other names = PICTURE SIZE or SCREEN ASPECT RATIO) 4. thanks, D. Delete Or with small letterbox bars when showing a 1.85:1 movie (comedies, some smaller dramatic films): A 1.85:1 aspect ratio image as shown on a 1.78:1 (16x9) HD/UHDTV. Well my Samsung HP-T4254 Plasma does not accept 480i over the HDMI ports. My tv has a button to switch the aspect ratio and I have to manually select the right one. 6. you'll know it when you see it if you ever happen to run into that issue. My tv is new ultra hdtv .I am using HDM1. Unfortunately the 720p/Stretch settings yield lousy-quality SD pictures, at least on my converter/tv. I would never have known to power off the cable box and access the menu per your Quick Fix...so we thank you very much and we hope others will benefit from your knowledge. Please note that the original 4:3 programming is being distorted (squeezed). Also I can't switch closed caption mode using the TV's original remote when using the HDMI port. And it's not just my house in my area. These exist largely because people get upset that black bars cover the screen, thinking they weren't seeing "the whole image" (even though, as we've discussed, they were). Press the menu button on the front of the cable box. There is no way to power cycle the uDTA with the remote so you need to unplug it and re-plug the power to properly initialize the HDMI !!. This issue is that the programming is "squeezed" beyond 4:3 and that is what's causing this distortion. To do so: (using the Motorola DCT6416 III). The brochure from Comcast is beautifully glossy but has scant useful information. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. I don't know why this seems backwards. The manual on the remote explains how to pair the RF in the remote with the RF in the DTA. I am not sure what you mean, try coax instead of HDM1. Or something like that.

The tv attached to the box is hd and connected with hdmi cable. Your question is answered here: If you have a question that is not directly related to the topic, it's best to start your own thread rather than adding your question to somebody else's thread. So, what's up with that? Many thanks. Regarding bright green power LED:The remote/box is RF capable. So, if you set the Output Type to 480i/p as the native resolution of your display, then ALL programs sent to your TV will be in 480i/p. No.
I was having the same problem as some here, i.e. Depending on your favorite old movie, however, these could range from 1.37:1 ("Casablanca") all the way to 2.76:1 ("Ben-Hur," and more recently, "The Hateful Eight"). (yes, I've tried every HDMI device configuration and 6 or more HDMI cables to no avail) I tried the RNG110 and of course that works fine. I've tried 3 new DC60's and all the same.

Boxes never power off without removing power cable, remotes do not power down device and the very bright, annoying green power indicator is ridiculous, why must these boxes remain on sucking electricity not to mention money.

Thanks! Were you … It's still smaller than the Motorola behemoth I used to have. I have adjusted the setting on the x1 box to proper aspect ratio. Also, the supposedly HD content looks really bad. It only started when we went from a digital box to a HD digital box. The DC60Xu would not work with my JVC 37" flat panel. © CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved. You can mount it anywhere you like since the remote can work over radio frequencies. A perfect square has an aspect ratio of 1x1, or 1:1. I found a very easy fix on my Comcast remote. We'll skip the "director's intent" argument because in all my years talking about the benefits of the correct aspect ratio, pleading "this is what the director wanted!"
Comcast nor Dynex can help. Welcome, Mugur, but please don't post the same question in more than one place on the forums, a forum no-no. I'm assuming you got some bad information from the rep. From what you say you have HD service in the house -you should get HD signals through these DTA's. Its irritating because those are the channels we pay extra for. The program is obviously squeezed to less than 4:3 between the 2 narrower bars. I have the same issue with the HD DTA connected to LG 40" LED TV (1080p). That's 26 percent less resolution than a standard 16x9 HD image to start with, and you're only selecting part of it when you zoom/expand to fill the screen. When I press the power button on the remote to turn off TV I expect everything to shut down. Your user manual may talk about this (but probably not)...Your 480p picture looks good for SD programs? The Vizio CinemaWide XVT3D0CM was a 21x9 TV. I've set the aspect ratio to 16:9, but the HD content sent to the TV is awful. Your HDTV is even wider. They also have the advantage of being much less expensive to rent than the settop boxes. As a comparison,  SD shows on other popular streaming services I've tried don't have the same distortion. Thanks,it worked.I have now 1080I and 480I override. Can you? What is really interesting is all the app functions are full screen, including the progress bar. A black & white screen will now display allowing you to chose your aspect ratio as well as additional settings for HD televisions. I appreciate your input and completely understand if you're not inclined to continue, but... Is there a standard that isn't adhered to somewhere along the line? 5. I'll add links to the manuals to the blog post... David,I just installed the HD DTA but the aspect ratio is way off. Also note that this is streaming in a chrome window and behaves the same when it is and isn't full screen. Aug 15, 2020 #2 of 12 Yudoka ... Edit: I also have Comcast in Philly suburbs. That's what I did and I'm free of bright green lights! Old TV shows generally have an aspect ratio of 4x3.

Last edited: Aug 15, 2020. I'm leaving it on 480P for SD because when its on streatch, I see a line of closed captioning data at the very top edge of my screen on most SD channels. I think if you have the TV aspect ratio set to 4:3 in the Tivo then the Zoom button will only change the aspect ratio for HD channels and if you have the aspect ratio set to 16:9 then the zoom button will only change the aspect ratio for SD channels. Like 16x9 TVs, this matched exactly no movie aspect ratios.
