I showed up a few minutes late but was still able to get my popcorn (with do it yourself cheesy seasoning) and find a good seat. this is the kind of theater you dream about how it would be in New York. Concerned about falling, I walked quite slowly until we came to our row of choice, where we could not see the seats. If we ever came here again, we would likely take a bus or Uber. Seats are very worn and incredibly uncomfortable. Yes, the theater is old and shows it's age a bit but I felt quite comfortable with the surroundings. Sticky floors. I prefer my rep house to be in an old theatre like the Neptune or the Egyptian but this place does okay in a pinch. Is this your business? I really appreciate theatres that don't play the standard hollywood box office "hit" or "miss".

YES! It shows such an array of movies- from current releases to foreign movies that you would never get the chance to see anywhere else. Decent concessions. (Negative)Do cats like vampires? It has interesting cinematic  runs, lat enight movies.. and a constantly changing  very  young staff.It is a classic.Many a Univ student has spent many an hour here watching movies, going to first dates here and eating across the street.You will find a gold mine of not really current, bu tinteresting and thought -provoking movies. Their movies are independent, and they're often the only theater (in all of Seattle) showing whatever is playing there. Seattle is the Land-o-Plenty for Landmark Theatres and the Varsity is the one most likely to be playing something I want to see at any given time. This place was way better than student food. Don't think I would go back though because the spot really creeped me out..
There was a real bottleneck at the entance door because of the many patrons already inside the tiny lobby and the slow movement of the ticket line, exacerbated by ticket sellers also dispersing refreshments.When the door opened to the first-floor screening room (there are two more upstairs), we faced a wall flanked by two entrance spaces.

Don't pass up the chance to see a movie at the Varsity just because it isn't pretty. When ever I see a foreign film upstairs I always end up sitting behind a giant with good posture and miss half the movie because I have a head and shoulder blocking my view and I can't read what's being said.If I'm going to see a foreign film I think twice about coming to the Varsity but it's a great place to go and see independent films, eclectic Hollywood favorites and documentaries. this place is very less crowded so there is always lots of seats to choose from. i enjoy watching films downstairs, but the upper levels aren't that bad due to good quality of their screens. The fact that they get so many theaters into one space here is impressive. They should disclose the fact that there is no proper digital projection system in this theater. They had the wrong signs on the auditoriums. Popcorn was terrible.Not very clean, dusty smelling. Certainly not the most plush theater in the city, but they do have all the amenities of larger theaters...Extra greasy popcorn. And the sign on...
