She seems like a real person with good sense and an actual past, and she relates to Malcolm in a genuine way.

Acting was pretty good but premise of the movie, horrible. We were actually meant to watch the 2016 "The Boy" but I'm glad we picked the wrong one because I feel like it was by far the better one.

The father in this movie asked more questions than he gave guidance with crap like "You know why I'm doing this don't you?" SXSW Film Review: ‘The Boy’ A 9-year-old sociopath stubbornly fails to become scary in this stillborn thriller. What's the appeal of the horror genre? Raised solo by his father after his mother’s departure before the movie begins, Ted’s limited worldview is enhanced by the legacy surrounding him. How does it compare to other horror movies you've seen? Surprisingly, I did not get bored at all during the movie because I found the shots to be artistic and I could feel the loneliness the boy had to endure. Ted’s inclinations boil over when drunken upper-crust high school seniors occupy the motel for prom-night revels and torment the boy. Jared Breeze does an amazing job portraying a burgeoning psychopath in the truest sense. The mother ditched both her husband and boy at the beginning of the movie. The ending made me feel so bad that I thought to myself "this has got to be true terror", in spite of the fact that I have a liking for jump scares, which were completely absent from this movie. Reviews The Boy Next Door Christy Lemire January 23, 2015. No emotional investment is not to say the acting is bland or the dialogue shallow -to the contrary. Writing in blood on wall. This is hardly a spoiler considering the morbid inevitability in each scene, but Macneill’s elegant treatment of the material keeps its central mystery in play, with the palpable suspense derived from how and when young Ted will finally snap. When, as a criminal psychology major grad, I can assure you that there is without doubt a segment of sociopaths and psychopaths that are just plain BAD. Glass of beer shown at dinner.

PS No resemblance to Psycho! When a shady drifter (an excellent Rainn Wilson) has the misfortune to crash his car into a large animal, stranding him at the motel, he and Ted develop a bond, though the drifter’s past and Ted’s proclivities are an ill-fated combination. It is the best movie I've yet seen on the genesis of a sociopath and murderer, but it'a "quiet" film and assumes the viewer may know at least SOMEthing about one of the biggest topics of the last 50 years, serial murderers, and how they got that way. Ted’s only excitement comes from collecting the 25 cents he gets for removing roadkill from the little-traveled nearby highway; Dad presumably doesn’t realize that junior has actually been baiting animals in order to have more corpses to gather. Growing up without internet or video game is bad enough, but Ted has to live in a remote motel in the middle of nowhere. I was moved enough to yell commands at the characters and I watched right to the bitter (and perfect) end . The writing (or lack there of) is what kills this movie. Ted, the boy in this film doesn't seem to be an abnormal boy, but certain things piqued his curiosity in death. The Boy Next Door has its share of so-bad-they’re-good moments – and details, and chunks of dialogue – but not nearly enough.
