The Red Stripe Peavey Bandit features two clean voicings. speaker with it. You can run the clean channel up loud and turn the T.Dynamics down the amplifier will break up more. I just measured mine and that appears correct. It’s a more basic sound to me, and since I play mostly rock, metal, blues and a little jazz it works perfectly. To me, the red stripe and it is the most analog sounding amplifier in the whole range. And, of course, Bandits of today are built overseas instead of designed and built in the USA. The Peavey Bandit 112 Red Stripe is by far the best of the modern bandit range. The amp not only had the gain I was looking for but the kind of responsiveness I’d really only found in tube amps prior to this. Secondly, I think the clean channel on this amp lends well to effects pedals. It might sound strange to call a solid-state combo amplifier with a single 12-inch speaker a classic, but the Peavey Bandit might just make the cut.
And, it sounded much bigger than a 1x12 combo ought to. He suggested the Bandit, and when I chuckled and waved my hand he told me to shut up and play it before making a decision. The Block Logo was only used for a limited period of time, and the Block Logo Red stripe Bandits represent the last Peavey Bandits to be made in the USA.

With all the Internet hype aside regular going price one of these amplifiers in Australia is around $250-$275.
It almost doesn’t even matter which version you’ve got a pretty heavy amplifier. YouTube really opened up the world to everybody in terms of what guitar gear people like the best and why. None other ones I’ve seen come with it and it’s usually an added expense.

After playing both and comparing the two I realized my bandit sounded just as good and in my opinion blew the fender away. The Footswitch is not usually included with any of the Peavey Bandit amplifiers. I also feel like the drive times on the red stripe and it more up my alley personally than the ones on the actual silver stripe. This amp has been around for over three decades, and legions of guitar players have owned, played or otherwise encountered a Bandit at some time in the careers. The T.Dynamics knob is replaced with a power level switch on the back of the amp, which you use to choose between 100%, 50%, and 25% power output. I have some mixed feelings about that. The price might vary a little bit but that’s about right for one of these Red Stripe amplifiers. Don’t expect Fender-ish glassy clean sounds out of this amp. No one could tell the difference between the two. Controls are again simple: Pre and post gain, a very effective three-band EQ and a voicing switch.
If you are a looking for an affordable, reliable amp with awesome high-gain capabilities, this amp is a great choice. This is a real shame because this so many great solid-state amplifiers out there that most people just assume they’re all bad. In terms of Overdrive and Distortion, we get three different drive channels to choose from. Of course, you can always go new.
This was the last version to be made in the USA. What you said sounds correct. I think it sounds very good. Putting my Ibanez Tube Screamer in front of this clean sound gets a pretty good blues overdrive.
My Bandit is an American-made TransTube Series II “red stripe” version with the block logo. This version of the Bandit one of the earliest amps to incorporate Peavey’s now-legendary TransTube technology (my Bandit is actually Series II). We’re not done yet. Due to a color scheme incorporating a red stripe across the front of the amplifier, many people refer to the Transtube Series II Bandit as the “Red stripe Bandit”. Today’s Bandit is still a great little amp for a good price, and among the top solid-state combo amps for metal.

In bands, I used a Peavey 5150 stack, but that was way too big and way too much power for my needs. Unlike a lot of affordable 1x12 combos, the Peavey Bandit has some gig-worthy features you might appreciate. The Bandit’s controls are very simple. I’m returning it and buying a Country Gentlemen. Absolutely! The Bandit didn’t sound better than my 5150, and in most cases, it won’t outgun a good tube amp. Both is the correct answer. There was a point in time where Peavey stopped making all their own amplifiers and outsource them overseas. If you can grab one in good condition for a reasonable price I’d suggesting going for it. One of my great regrets is not getting the extension cabinet for it back then. During this time Peavey attempted to adopt a new company logo, and moved away from their traditional “pointy” logo. Obviously, it will depend on the seller as well as the condition of the amp. If you looking at the older blue striped amplifiers I’ve seen the sell in the United States that only $70. Guitar Gopher (author) on January 28, 2019: @Don - The Red Stripe really is a surprisingly good amp. You still get some great reverb, but no Presence control. If you turn it all the way to the right then the amp will stay cleaner and you’ll get more headroom. The modern Bandit retains many of the hallmarks of my more vintage model, but there are some changes too. The reason for the weight is Peavey actually put a quality speaker in the back of the majority of their amps.
It just fills a certain niche and does it really well. I would not get rid of the Mesa, but that's me. I highly recommend the modern Peavey Bandit for guitar players on a budget who need a reliable amp, especially those who are into metal. Several guitar players I worked with utilized one as a practice amp, but these were the Solo Series version. Back then, much of Peavey’s gear was American made, but that would change soon enough. I'm pretty sure it's not my original footswitch, though.
I can say, for an excellent condition Red Stripe Bandit, I would consider $240 a reasonable price. The Bandit also has an FX loop so you can choose to run your delay pedals via there.
Personally, I like Peavey’s TransTube circuitry so much I chose their Vypyr over a bunch of other modeling amps largely because of the distortion.
Needless to say, I was very surprised by the newest version of the Bandit. This is a high-gain amp to be sure, and whether you play rock and metal or just need the extra oomph for leads it has a lot to offer.
To me, the Peavey Transtube Bandit 112 is a great example of why you don’t always need to spend a lot to grab a quality piece of gear. A lot of the newer Bandit’s I’ve tried don’t sound anywhere near as good. Better, I think, than a few tube amps I’ve owned.
