WPO also assists in the development and transition of products, tools and services for timely and accurate weather and air quality forecasts that benefit society.
Some 98 percent of all Presidentially declared disasters are weather related, leading to around 500 deaths per year and nearly $15 billion in damage. Historically, this has been accomplished through a mix of research and modeling at NOAA labs, cooperative institutes, academia, and in the private sector that filters through the organization to operational use. In response, we developed the 2010–2030 NOAA Education Strategic 70 Plan and the 2015–2035 NOAA Education Strategic Plan.
