Screen sizes (prices): 65 ($NA/£N/A), 75 ($NA/£N/A) inches, HDMI Ports: 4, two with full bandwidth 48Gbps 2.1 support. Screen sizes (prices): 65-inch ($60,000/£TBA). It’s good to see that the new 48-inch model - the smallest OLED TV LG has ever released - manages to be cheaper than the 55-inch model by a bigger amount than I’d expected. Raashid January 22, 2020. Note, two, that with the step down to a 4K LCD TV, the HDMIs no longer include any full 48Gbps options. Gamers can now enjoy Nvidia G-Sync Variable Refresh Rate support; reduced input lag from last year; and automatic low latency mode switching with compatible source devices. ], [UPDATE 2: LG has told me that it intends to add Dolby Atmos support to its Apple TV app ‘later in the year’. However, while it would have been helpful if LG had got its messaging straight on the updates, the apparent full success of the X Series firmware should surely give 9 Series owners - and X Series owners in territories beyond the US and South Korea - confidence that their updates are both imminent and likely to work well when they arrive. Here’s a link to the firmware - though it’s recommended that you only download it if you have an RTX 30 GPU you’re trying to use with your X Series OLED. For at the time of writing, the promised C9 update still doesn’t appear to be available in either the US or Europe, with LG Customer Service teams continuing to deny any knowledge of the update’s existence. Screen sizes (prices): 49 ($550/£900), 55 ($599/£1,000), 65 ($899/£1,300) inches. Launch date: June for the US, possibly earlier (though can’t yet confirm) for the UK. 4K/120Hz RGB 4:4:4 10-bit (rather than the 12 bit support you can support with 48Gbps connections).

Second, owners of LG’s 2020 X Series OLEDs would get an update at an unspecified (but reasonably soon) future date that they’d be able to access as usual via LG websites or OTA updates direct to their TVs. WebOS support continues through the UN71 range, though, as does the Filmmaker mode and HDR support. Second, owners of LG’s 2020 X Series OLEDs would get an update at an unspecified (but reasonably soon) future date that they’d be able to access as usual via LG websites or OTA updates … For five years, LG was alone in the large-screen OLED TV game. Which should bring across the board improvements along the lines discussed in the OLED ZX section. But I’d say it could still offer some benefit based on the greater sense of depth and realism 8K can produce (more details on 8K can be found in this overview) even when you can’t necessarily make out every last pixel of extra detail. Samsung TVs, for instance, only support HDR10+, not Dolby Vision. The GXes apparently still deliver 60W of sound with Dolby Atmos decoding in a 4.2-channel configuration, despite their all-in-one design. This combines the enhanced metadata in Dolby Vision-encoded sources with a sensor in the TV to try and maintain the original look of the content even in rooms where there’s lots of ambient light to compete with. Though it’s worth remembering that a rollable R Series OLED TV was supposed to launch in the second half of 2019, but never did.

The UN71s also differ from the UN73s by not shipping with one of LG’s Magic Remote controls. Impact 50: Investors Seeking Profit — And Pushing For Change, my previous story on the RTX 30/LG OLED issues. I’ll be testing as many of LG’s 2020 TVs as I can over the coming weeks and months, so keep an eye on my Forbes channel for those reviews. As reported in my previous story on the RTX 30/LG OLED issues, what was supposed to happen according to LG’s statement late last Friday was this: First, a firmware update would be made available quickly for 2019’s 9-series models in Europe and the US that people with RTX 30 cards could obtain by contacting their local LG Service Centers.

These, again, seem all but identical in specification terms to the smaller, non-IPS UN80 models, except that the UN74 models only get three HDMIs, rather than four. As I explained in my review of 2019’s 75SM9900, its impressive resolution and color work was massively undermined by poor black levels that left dark scenes looking grey, and generated large areas of extraneous backlight ‘blooming’ around stand-out bright objects. The LG OLED48CX is the first 48-inch OLED TV. This time, at least, the news is good - but not in the way LG’s most recent official statement on the subject said it would be! This is because they still deliver a lovely, stunningly thin OLED design and the same picture quality as the GX and WX series at a cheaper price. It appears, though, that the 50 and 43-inch models don’t use an IPS type of LCD panel, unlike the vast majority of LG LCD TVs. Launch dates: Some retailers are suggesting a potential June launch for this. Inside the new 8K TVs will be LG’s latest video processor: The Alpha 9 Generation 3. The 70-inch model apparently is not IPS, while the other sizes are. Not having a Magic Remote (which carry built in microphones) also means that the UN71s don’t support any voice recognition out of the box. But there are manufacturers - most notably Panasonic and Philips (Europe) - now shipping TVs that support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. They replace the previous E series, which used to combine premium designs with superior audio systems. LG revealed at CES that its 2020 TV range should have Apple TV onboard from launch, and has now also promised that it will be bringing Apple TV to many of its 2018 TVs via another over the air firmware update. Like Dolby Vision, which LG OLED TVs have supported for a number of years now, HDR10+ adds extra scene by scene picture information to deliver punchier, more accurate HDR pictures to compatible TVs. However, it also uses a new power management system to control how much light goes to different parts of the picture. The GX models are the new kids on LG’s OLED block. This introduces a range of picture improvements, including better upscaling, better near-black management, better color uniformity and control, better motion, and improved tone mapping that makes HDR seem brighter (even though the screens likely won’t actually measure brighter than last year’s did). This decision by LG to go full bandwidth with two full HDMI 2.1 ports is very welcome at a time when other brands are tending to offer only certain HDMI 2.1 features, or calling ports HDMI 2.1 ports when they don’t necessarily support HMDI 2.1’s full potential bandwidth of 48Gbps. Also new to the ZX range will be the Filmmaker mode. But this year there will also be a more affordable (though still very expensive) and easy to accommodate 77-inch model. Dolby Vision IQ and Filmmaker mode are both onboard too, while sound comes courtesy of a 60W, 4.2-channel system with Dolby Atmos decoding.
The best LG TV we've reviewed in 2020 is the LG CX OLED. Audio is 20W stereo, with a so-called Ultra Surround processor on hand to supposedly deliver a few surround sound effects.

Though at least the IPS panel is still direct rather than edge lit, and the seemingly ever-present Filmmaker Mode continues to put in an appearance. Sound drops down to 40W from a 2.2-channel configuration, and unexpectedly the CX loses the 4K broadcast-friendly ATSC 3.0 tuners found in the three higher 2020 OLED ranges. Some retailers are suggesting a potential June launch for this. You still get Dolby Atmos decoding, though, as well as the same webOS and voice recognition features. Impact 50: Investors Seeking Profit — And Pushing For Change, this previous ‘first impressions’ article, my first impressions of the new CX OLED range here. In fact, the OLED65RX should deliver the same Dolby Vision HDR support and new Alpha 9 Generation 3 video processing you get on LG’s ‘regular’ OLEDs for 2020. The NANO91s get a crescent-shaped, centrally attached stand, while the NANO90s get feet under each corner. Here’s the full list of NanoCell LG models coming to the US and Europe in 2020. Stepping down from the UN85s means for starters that you get a native 50Hz panel rather than a 100Hz one. But there are less dimming zones than you get with the NANO99 models. The NANO 95s are an interesting attempt by LG to make 8K much more mainstream than it has been before. For the most part, this range appears to be a mere design variation on the UN81 series, using feet under each corner rather than the centrally-attached crescent stand of the UN81 series. This remarkable ’rollable’ OLED TV wowed all who saw it at the 2019 CES. Note that the UM7X and UM6X support won’t roll out until later in the month.

In that time I'm fairly confident that I've reviewed more TVs and projectors than any other individual on the planet, as well as experiencing first-hand the rise and fall of all manner of great and not so great home entertainment technologies. LG’s LCD range is also looking much more interesting for 2020 than it has before. The good news in all this is that the update appears to fix BOTH of the RTX 30 GPU issues that were originally reported for the X Series models. LG's new 'Gallery' OLED range. Which resulted in much better black levels, much more shadow detail, and far, far less backlight blooming. HDMI ports: 4, two with full bandwidth 48Gbps 2.1 support. On your terms. Surprisingly, even at this level of its range LG is claiming 4K/120P RGB 4:4:4 10-bit support for two of its HDMIs, as well as such game-friendly features as ALLM and eARC support.
Screen sizes (prices): NANO91 - 55 (£1,300), 65 (£1,700), 75 (£2,500), 86 inches (£4,000); NANO90 - 55 ($1,050/£1,300), 65 ($1,500/£1700), 75 ($2,500/£2,500) and 86 (US only - $3,300) inches. Sound also takes a hit on the NANO95s. Note that the WX series doesn’t carry any full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports.
