It's been heavily implied that she faced little satisfaction throughout her many years of marriage and only stayed with him because she both needed as much help as she could get taking care of Sophia and also because of her needy tendencies. After Andrea dies during the night and Rick puts her down Rick heads outside, where everyone is waiting for him. Carl and Lydia share a room, and later have sex again, something that is witnessed by Andrea. Later, he visits Lydia and finds her crying in her cell. After reading the letter, Rick's guess proves to be right, revealing that Anna indeed has feelings for Carl.
Alpha announces that she marked their border, and that if Rick's people cross the border into her territory, her herd will cross onto theirs. Carl is happy about it, and asks if Lori is worried about him. While Carl is at first shown to be very happy to find others and have real food, he's shown to be having problems adjusting to the community. Carl calls Judith 'cute' and 'lucky' to be born into this family. Lori was also who she relied upon the most for support whenever it was needed. Alpha strikes her, calling her too weak to live among them. Sometime in the night, Andrea wakes Carl and has him get prepared for the trip to the Hilltop, explaining the situation and that Lydia is downstairs and ready. After Negan punches Rick in the face, Carl responds by shooting at him.
